Are you one of the people who always wait for the start or end of the season to upgrade and buy stuff? If so, now is the time to start thinking and planning your spring shopping list because the first few weeks of March could save you money on a number of things.
It’s true that March doesn’t bring any major markdowns since there’s no holiday ahead and we’re well past Valentine’s by now, but there are a few essentials you may want to steal for the upcoming season and holidays.
St. Patrick’s Day Greens
No, not greens as in vegetables but St. Patrick’s Day green-colored essentials. The list includes clothing, accessories, home décor, party supplies, party favors, toys, themed tableware, hanging decorations and drinking glasses, although who knows what retailers will be putting out this year? The selection gets more varied and unique every passing holiday.
St. Patrick’s is celebrated on March 17, but shops will start selling items way ahead so you may want to shop early for a better selection, or wait until the last few days leading up to March 17 for lower prices.
Frozen Foods
Yes, greens too. You know why March is good to stock up on frozen foods of all kinds? Because March is National Frozen Food Month and as is the case with any other food celebration, this one too comes with substantial discounts.
Retailers will want to reach as many consumers as possible, and one of the ways they will encourage sale will be to pump up promotions on all frozen food. Think heavily discounted frozen fish, frozen vegetables, frozen fruits, frozen desserts, frozen pizza, frozen poultry and other meats.
Have your freezer ready thus, and if you own a large chest freezer, don’t be shy with shopping. Frozen food will make cooking so much easier.
Winter Gear
Ski equipment can cost a pretty penny, but you can pay less in March when sellers host sale events throughout the month.
Sporting good stores usually sell last season’s gear and apparel a whole lot cheaper to make room for new models and some stores may even carry trade in programs, which means you can buy used gear quite cheap, or alternatively, you can trade in your equipment to receive store credit and buy new equipment.
Slopes are good to hit through April, so whether you’re buying used gear or new equipment, you still have plenty of time to make use of it because spring won’t set in at ski resorts until May, officially end of the season.
Other items you can save on in March are breakfast foods and snacks because aside from being Frozen Food Month, March is also when we celebrate National Cereal Day – on the 7th, National Potato Chip Day – on the 14th, and National Chip and Dip Day – on the 23rd. These food holidays are great for shopping related foods with deeper savings, plus the selection is about to get a lot more satisfying.
