Savory Brussels Sprouts with Shrimp Infusion

Ingredients:

  • 20 dried large shrimp (approximately 1/4 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup hot chicken broth or hot water
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed, halved, and larger ones cut into quarters
  • 6 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 chicken bouillon cube
  • Kosher salt, to taste

 

Instructions:

  1. Rehydrate Shrimp: Place the dried large shrimp in a small bowl and pour hot chicken broth or hot water over them. Allow the shrimp to stand for approximately 40 minutes, letting them slightly soften and rehydrate.
  2. Sauté Garlic: In a large nonstick skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-low heat. Add finely chopped garlic and cook, stirring often, until the garlic becomes fragrant and soft, which typically takes about 3 minutes.
  3. Char Brussels Sprouts: Increase the heat to medium-high and add Brussels sprouts, placing the cut sides down in an even layer. Cook undisturbed until the sprouts achieve a delightful char and turn golden brown on the cut sides, usually around 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Cook Sprouts and Add Flavor: Stir and flip the sprouts, cooking them occasionally until the outer leaves soften, turn a vibrant green, and the garlic reaches a toasted perfection, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Infuse with Shrimp: Introduce the soaked shrimp mixture and chicken bouillon cube to the skillet, breaking up the bouillon with a spoon or spatula. Simmer and stir often until the sprouts reach a crisp-tender state, and the shrimp sauce forms a loose glaze over them, taking approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Season and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat, season with kosher salt to taste, and serve the Brussels sprouts with the delightful shrimp-infused sauce. Enjoy this flavorful dish.
