Super Easy Classic Shepherd’s Pie

If you’re short on time but you’d still like to enjoy a classic shepherd’s pie, this recipe is worth trying. It includes the traditional ingredients but can be done in less than an hour so that you can please your palate effortlessly.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 6 to 8

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1-2 cups of diced vegetables (carrots, corn, peas)
  • 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1/2 cup of beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Start by boiling the peeled and quartered potatoes in a pot of water for approximately 20 minutes, or until they’re tender. Once cooked, drain them and mash them up with the butter. Season generously with salt and pepper. Set the creamy mashed potatoes aside.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: While the potatoes are cooking, heat a sauté pan over medium heat. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and add the chopped onion. Cook until the onion becomes tender and translucent. Incorporate the carrots into the sauté as well. If you’re using other vegetables, consider their respective cooking times and add them accordingly.
  3. Brown the Beef: To the sautéed vegetables, add the ground beef, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook the mixture until the beef is browned, breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks. Season the filling with salt and pepper to your liking.
  4. Preheat and Layer: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a suitable baking dish, evenly layer the cooked meat mixture at the bottom.
  5. Top with Mashed Potatoes: Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes over the meat mixture, creating decorative swirls with a fork.
  6. Bake to Golden Perfection: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes have achieved a delightful golden brown hue.
